Introduction

Wedge Golf ("Wedge," "we," "us," or "our") operates the Wedge Golf mobile application (the "App") and the website at wedge-golf.dev. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App or website.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, username, and optional profile photo. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from those services.

Golf Data

We collect round scores, hole-by-hole data, shot locations (GPS coordinates during play), club information, handicap data, and course details. If you link your GHIN account, we import your handicap index and posting history.

Location Data

With your permission, we collect precise location during rounds to show distances and to record where the shots you log were played. If you turn on Live Tracking, Wedge records your location and device motion on iPhone and Apple Watch for the whole round in progress, including while the App is in the background or your phone is locked. We use this data to place your shots on the hole map and to develop automatic shot detection. Live Tracking is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time in Settings. We also use general location to find nearby golf courses.

Motion, Apple Watch and Health

With Live Tracking on, Wedge records motion from your iPhone and Apple Watch, such as acceleration and rotation, to help detect when you hit a shot. On Apple Watch, Live Tracking records your round as a Golf workout in the Health app so it can keep recording while your wrist is down. Wedge saves only that workout to Health and does not read your Health data.

Talk to stats

If you use Talk to stats to describe a hole, your iPhone or Apple Watch turns your speech into text with Apple's speech recognition, on the device where it is supported. Wedge does not save or upload the audio. The text is sent to Wedge, and Wedge sends it to our service provider TypeSafe AI, to fill in your score, shots and stats, which you review before anything is saved. Along with the text, TypeSafe AI receives the hole's par and length and the names of the clubs in your bag. It does not receive your email address, GHIN details or location. We keep the text of each note for up to 90 days to check how accurately the hole was filled in, then delete it.

Device Information

We automatically collect device type, operating system version, and app version for analytics and troubleshooting.

Website Analytics

Our website uses Vercel Web Analytics to count visits. It records the page viewed, the referring site, and your country, browser, operating system, and device type. It does not use cookies, and visitors are counted with an anonymous identifier that is discarded after 24 hours.

How We Use Your Information

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App
  • Calculate handicap indices and round statistics
  • Fill in your score, shots and stats from Talk to stats notes, place shots from Live Tracking data, and develop automatic shot detection
  • Enable social features (following, feeds, discovery)
  • Facilitate matches, tournaments, and wagering features
  • Send push notifications (match updates, invites, scores)
  • Manage your Wedge Pass subscription for premium features
  • Post scores to GHIN on your behalf when authorized
  • Respond to support requests

Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following circumstances:

  • Other users: Your profile, rounds, and stats may be visible to users who follow you or participate in matches with you
  • Service providers: We use Firebase (authentication, push notifications, analytics), Google Cloud Platform (hosting and data storage), Vercel (website hosting and website analytics), and TypeSafe AI (reading the text of Talk to stats notes to fill in the hole)
  • Meta: Our iOS app uses Meta's SDK to share app install, app launch and in-app purchase events and basic device details with Meta. Meta uses this information to measure our ads and to target and deliver ads. If you allow tracking, Meta and Firebase Analytics also receive your device's advertising identifier
  • GHIN/USGA: When you choose to post scores, we transmit your round data to the GHIN system
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), secure cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, and Firebase Authentication for identity management. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the email below. Some data may be retained as required by law.

Live Tracking data kept on your iPhone or Apple Watch is deleted from the device once the round ends and the data has been uploaded. The text of a Talk to stats note is deleted after 90 days. Uploaded Live Tracking data and your Talk to stats notes are deleted when you delete your account.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Turn off Live Tracking, or withdraw location permission, at any time
  • Turn off app tracking at any time in iOS Settings, under Privacy & Security, Tracking
  • Opt out of push notifications via device settings

Children's Privacy

The App is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date.
